If you want to transfer a large number of files to and from the Internet, there is no easier way to do that than with a connection to an ftp server. One of the easiest programs to access an ftp server is Filezilla. If you use a lot of different ftp servers, the Site Manager shows a list of servers that you ahev used in the past. This allows you to easily and quickly access frequently used ftp servers. All log on information is stores in the Site Manager as well as all of the ftp addresses.

One of the controls that is used in the Site Manager include the Site List. The Site List lists all sites that you have entered into the Site Manager. It then arranges the sites in a tree for easy access. You can change the details of the sites by clicking on the entry. You can connect to a site in the Site Manager by double clicking on it in the tree.

Another useful control in the Site Manager is the Servertype control. You can choose the type of server that you will access by using this control. The ftp server is the default server in Filezilla. Ftp over SSL with explicit encryption is a connection that is secure after the connection is made. Ftp over SSL with implicit encryption sets up a secure connection before you log on. SFTP connects to an SFTP using a connection that has been encrypted.

The Default Remote Directory shows the local and remote directory once you have connected to an ftp server. The default local directory shows the files that are on the computer that has been connected to an ftp server. These files will be available to be uploaded to the Internet through an established ftp connection.

Another control is the Logontype You can set up specific ways to connect using this control. If you would like to connect to an ftp server anonymously, you can specify that, but you will not be able to enter a user name and password. If you select Normal, you will have to enter your user name. You may still be required to enter a password if you select this option.

A small menu is available in the Site Manager dialog box and it allows your to export and import the Site Manager properties. You can export your site by using a simple URL list or you can export the sites by giving all the details. In either case, you will have to gie the name of the text file that you sites will be exported into. If you use the URL method, only the port, password, user name and remote directory will be saved. If you provide all the details, you will save all of the site details in your file.

If you want to Import the file, you will supply a filename. If the file contains sites and URLs, Filezilla will detect that and will import all relevant information.
